WASHINGTON — The 27th commandant of the United States Coast Guard Adm. Linda L. Fagan delivered her second State of the Coast Guard Address on March 20 in Washington, D.C.
Fagan described the growing demand for Coast Guard operations around the world and the service’s unique role and capabilities as a military service, law enforcement agency, a regulatory authority, and a crisis response organization.
She discussed the Coast Guard’s role in protecting the nation’s marine transportation system from physical and cybersecurity threats, and the need for the service to address personnel gaps, maintenance, and infrastructure challenges to ensure workforce and mission readiness.
Fagan highlighted improvements made to the Coast Guard’s talent management system and recruitment methods and described ongoing efforts to strengthen service culture.
